Lindsay Pick is a lifelong, fifth-generation New Orleanian and the founder of The Okra Inn. After growing up in the Algiers neighborhood and attending Tulane University, she was inspired after Hurricane Katrina to devote herself to the city and region she loves. She was a full-time Americorps volunteer in the city, followed by a master's degree in Urban and Regional Planning with a focus on coastal restoration. She co-produced a PBS television program focused on Louisiana's coastal issues, then founded Louisiana Lost Lands Environmental Tours in 2010. At the same time, she began following her other dream - owning a community-focused Bed & Breakfast to share her love of our city with travelers. In 2013 The Okra Inn was born, and after starting from the humblest of beginnings she was able to devote herself full-time to the Inn in 2017. In her personal life, Lindsay loves a celebration! From Mardi Gras and any other parade she can manage to find, to simple gatherings with friends, she finds fun in celebrating life.
Adam Hix moved to New Orleans in 2014 because he loves the city and wanted to live here. A pastor's son, he grew up in upstate New York, Delaware, and Iowa before attending college in Chicago. His wide range of jobs has included time as an over-the-road truck driver, high school teacher, customer service rep, union organizer, text relay operator, and waiter. He finally joined The Okra Inn full-time in 2020 with the opening of The Okra Inn Carrollton. His interests range from sports to nerd culture, with a longstanding love of history and fiction. Despite four tryouts, Jeopardy! has not yet called him up to the big leagues.
Penny joined our team in 2020. As of early 2024, her duties at The Okra Inn include "helping" Mommy and Daddy with "cleaning" and "decorating", as well as asking to meet guests but then getting extremely shy when it actually happens. Her interests include dancing, playgrounds, and former Disney television show Doc McStuffins, which she is very, very interested in.
Our newest team member, David joined in summer 2023. As of late 2024, his interests are mainly walking around throwing everything on the floor, and his primary duty is to maybe not throw literally EVERYTHING on the floor.
Ringo is a large, quiet, very calm and peaceful dog who is getting up there in years. He is known for his iron constitution, which is good because he is also known for eating anything and everything, including tennis balls, rocks, plastic bags, a bag of flour, dozens and dozens of socks, and an entire jar of marinara sauce including the jar. His self-assigned duty is to briefly greet guests if he happens to see them, while his owners frantically warn said guests that he will slobber on their pants.
